3 Signs Your Home Is Under Attack By Termites

Termites can cause an awful lot of damage to a home, especially if they are eating away at your house and you did not notice them until you start to notice damage to your home. These pests may go unnoticed because you don't recognize them as termites. You may think that they are mayflies or flying ants and not termites at all. Most people won't recognize a termite when they see one. This is why you need to pay close attention to the signs of termites instead. 1. Piles Of Sawdust

If you have piles of sawdust everywhere, it may be caused by termites chewing through the softwood on your home. The sawdust may not be that noticeable at first, but the more these pests chew up your home, the more sawdust you will begin to see. If you have seen piles of sawdust, tap on the wood nearby to see if it sounds hollow. If it sounds hollow, or feels hollow when you tap on it, it more than likely is hollow. Take apart the wood and inspect it for yourself. If you see holes in the wood, or live pests inside, it's probably termites.

2. Tunnels Of Mud

If you have seen mud tunnels around your home or along the sides of your foundation walls, there's a chance it could be termites. You can try to smash the mud tunnels to see what type of pests are inside, or you can watch to see where these pests are going and follow it for damage where they may be gnawing on your home. You may notice a lot of different mud tunnels. Get rid of the tunnels, and try to kill any of the termites you see.

3. Swollen Walls

If your walls appear swollen or you think it looks like you have water damage inside your home, but you know that it isn't caused by water damage, it may be termites instead. You may have to open up the wall and inspect it for yourself. If you see termites in the wall, you have a problem that you need to take care of. Calling a pest control company is the best thing you can do.
